Description:   The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Cleaning in room west of courtyard of Byzantine house. Cleaning undertaken in east half of room to help clarify relationship between tile flooring (revealed by 2008 contexts 5572, 5587) in west half of room and surface in east half of room with reddish soil containing clay and bits of ash. Surface distinctions had become unclear following constant treading by field personel.
Cleaning revealed that surfaces in east part of room pass beneath surfaces in west part of room. Also revealed was a small pit (context 5926) in center of cleaned area.
Only a shallow scraping was undertaken, primarily using a trowel.
