Description:   The soil color is dark pinkish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   In order to further investigate the hypothesized southern extent of the drain which sits south of robbing trench cut 497, we moved into the room surrounded by walls 332, 365, 306, 366. First, we cleaned the north-east floor. Deposit context 592 represents the material cleaned from this floor. This area was last exposed in the 2008 season with the removal of context 424. We had our table sitting in this area, which resulted in much walking over this fill. Deposit 592 abutted the south side of wall 366 and the west side of wall 332. Cleaning deposit 592 revealed a path of clay and rough dark pinkish brown fill with many broken roof tiles and cobbles.
We temporarily stopped cleaning context 592 and were going to excavate a hump next to wall 332, since we identified this layer of fill as the most recent fill in the room. When we began to investigate this hump, we found a thin skin of pressed material on top. At first we wondered if this pressed material was floor, but after consulting records from 2008 season, specifically 408 which stated that the excavators found no floor, we concluded that this thin skin of pressed material resulted from built up silt over the past year, and was not the floor. Context record sheet 408 was explicit that they did not reach, expose or excavate through any floor.
The removal of this cleaning context revealed more rough dark pinkish brown fill with many inclusions of cobble, roof tile, fragments, fine-coarse pebbles, and pottery.
