Description:   The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is well sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Context 5963 is a floor surface located in southern part of room which is north of courtyard of Byzantine house. All other later contexts associated with this floor (5945, 5939, 5933) have been removed making this next candidate for excavation. Context 5963 is one of several possible floor surfaces which have been revealed in this room.
Prior to removal of context 5963, sampling strategy for floatation undertaken. Four samples approximately 60% of the context (60 l.). The remaining soil from the context was dry sieved.
Floor 5963 had several leveling fills overlap (5945, 5933, 5939 It was cut by foundation trench (5960 = 5573) and cut 5961 (=5910).
Soil was firm, dark yellowish brown clayey silt. Inclusions were 5-10% and were well sorted as would be expected for a floor. Concentration of ash/charcoal in NE section of context. One coin (2009-18) recovered during removal of context.
Surface revealed beneath context 5963 does not appear to have dense tile scatter characteristic of revealed surfaces in much of the rest of the room. Also, did not produce bone unlike most of the removed contexts in western half of the room.
Surface revealed by removal of context 5963 could represent another floor surface at a lower level.
In SE section of context 5963 gravelly surface revealed which is likely a contunation of context 5942. This indicates context 5942 does not represent a floor patch for context 5963.
