Description:   The context shape in plan is rectrangular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is flat. Truncation: Disturbed to the N by construction of a pier (= cut 6065). Disturbed to the S by 1960s excavations.
Notes:   We were excavating a baulk to the E of wall 5965 in order to establish its relationship to the baulks on the N and S side of foundation 5552. Initially we thought the three baulks were part of the same large soild deposit, but after removing deposit 5984, we discovered two separate soild compositions (=deposits 6002 and 6006). The eastern deposit 6006 bears a close relationship to as yet unexcavated soil deposits yet further to the east. The western deposit 6002 appeared to cut deposit 6006, and to be the right size and shape for a trench. Though the trench is truncated to the N and S, the wall to which it grants access (5965) does contain worked blocks, and some blocks have been removed.
