Description:   The context shape in plan is irregular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is flat. Truncation: possibly continues on the the other side of wall 10083 but no cut was found there upon excavation.
Notes:   This cut is irregular because it is subrectangular to the W and NE, but narrows towards the south, starting halfway down the E side of the cut.
Exavation of 6007 revealed the line of a cut, which on the east side curves from NE to SW before terminating at the N face of Wall 10079. We traced the line of the cut around its N limit, which also follows a curve, to much more linear, straight eastern limit. The shape of the cut seemed strange for a pit, but initially no other interpretation seemed apparent.
Excavation of the fill produced a large amount of pottery and bone. We sampled from the fill for flotation and continued excavation about 40cm lower until we came down on an area that had large voids in the fill. Quickly thereafter we came down on the surface of large, rectangular stones, which seem to be the facing of a drain (6024), sloping south to noth and apparently curving to the NE. This level marks the bottom of this cut.
Later excavation of context 6028 revealed the line of the continuation of cut 6023. We excavated this fill as a separate context (6091) and kept a single number (6023) for the cut filled by 6010 and 6091. The full extend of the cut, then, extends to wall 10083 and curves from the S to the NE, narrowing somewhat in the NE section.
