Notes:   this cleaning is being carried out on the soil baulk S of foundation 5552 and W of the N-S wall forming the E boundary of the room. After removing wall 6025 we noticed that a clayey soil with large tile inclusions seemed to make up a single deposit on top of the unexcavated soil, suggesting it should be treated as a single context. The southern boundary was not clear, however, since the large tile inclusions seemed to give way to rubble, thus the cleaning was done to clarify the boundary. The rubble to the S seems to be laid on soil similar to that already described and may thus be later. However the clayey soil seems to be laid on at least one of the pieces of rubble, so A. Carter thinks it must be the later context. We will therefore excavate it first as deposit (6095).
