Notes:   Context 6344 is a packed earth surface in the SW corner of the courtyard of the Byzantine house. This context is truncated in the west by one of the 1960s excavation trenches. To the north, this context abuts what appears to be a thick tile fill. As excavation progressed it became evident that the tile fill extended farther to the south as well. This surface extended across the full width of the threshold and revealed a large uneven fill.
