Stratum:   5% inclusions: small rocks (ca. avg. 3-5 cm.), some tile, pottery, small lenses of ash, small flecks of charcoal and calcium carbonate, organic material.
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark greyish black. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   Context 6759 is a very soft fill that is located along the West face of NS wall 5431. It was revealed by the excavation of context 6747 (see ntoes for 6747 for a sketch plan of the area, post digging of 6747). We are excavating this context in order to clarify the sequence of events in the area and get a better understanding of the ashy layer and very firm layer uncovered in the Northern and Western quadrants of the area during excavation of 6747.
The soil of 6759 is very loose, dark brown, with lenses of ash (this makes the soil greyish-brown in color). There are few inclusions of tile, pottery (mostly cooking wares) and bone. As we investigated the fill and cut (= 6760), we uncovered another rubble wall running North-South, roughly parallel to NS wall 5431 and abutting (but not bonded to) the East-West spur wall revealed during the excavation of context 6747 (EW wall = 6764). The context of fill 6759 continues down between these three walls. The Northern boundary of the area is delineated by a change in soil: the soil to the North is reddish-brown in color, slighly more compact, and with more inclusions.
As we continue down, the soil remains the same, but we have begun to encounter far more inclusions, particularly large pieces of cookware and lots of bones (bones are not articulate). This new stratum continues to the North, so we will close 6759 and open a new context to the North (= 6763) in order to remove the rubbly fill and expose the layer with the cookware and bones.
