Notes:   Context 6806 is a deposit of mixed fill covering most of the northern half of the room west of the courtyard of the Byzantine house. It is truncated by cuts 6762 and 6796 and continues beneath walls 5724 and 5725. Context 6806 appears to be a fill which may have been dumped into this space. The soil is mixed and consists of light yellowish white silty clay, dark reddish brown clayey silt, and light yellowish brown clayey silt. Overall the inclusions comprise 10% and include pottery, metal, charcoal, and stones.
We paused during context 6808 to continue digging in the robbing trench defined by cut 6762. We continued with 6806 when this was finished. The removal of context 6806 revealed another surface of compact earth, and several more are now visible in the scarp of trench cut 6762. In this surface are numerous large pieces of charcoal and lots of white marl.
A large amount of bronze came out of this layer including several large flat pieces. Context 6806 turned out to be much deeper than originally believed which helps to distinguish it from the thin surfaces of compact earth above. Excavation of context 6806 continued on 23/4/10. In the southeast corner of the deposit against structure 6738 wall plaster began to turn up, several with different colors of paint (green, yellow, red). Excavation of 6806 has shown that the block abutting the north face of structure 6738 is coated with plaster. We should also note that the plaster is likely coming off of structure 6817. In the southwest corner, the removal of 6806 revealed a large angular, tabular boulder. It also became clear that the white marl surface only covered part of the room, while red soil covered the rest.
