Stratum:   50% inclusions: tile, pottery, bone, small-medium rocks (ca. avg. 10-12 cm.)
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is coarse sand.
Notes:   Context 6809 is a layer of fill with rubble and debris. It was revealed as we were taking a cleaning pass along the Northern boundary of the trench. The pottery from context 6781, over part of the Northern extension of NS wall 5431, included four sherds of contamination (19th-early 20th c. pottery). The Northern scarp of the area was backfilled by O. Broneer following the late 19th c. excavations, and subsequently investigated during the 1960s. In order to prevent future contamination, we decided to tak ea clearning pass over this area; the cleaning pass turned into a context of rubble and fill, with ca. 40-50% inclusions, primarily of tile, but also with pottery and some bone. We found a nearly complete small two-handled jug (N. 1045.35, E. 275.41, el. 83.74, saved as gt), as well as a coin (= 2010-047). The soil of the fill was very loose and relatively dark in color.
The excavation of context 6809 revealed four distinct strata in alternating bands: a loose stratum with lots of inclusions, a semi-compact stratum with few inclusions, a loose stratum with lots of inclusions, and a semi-compact stratum with few inclusions (from East, alongside NS wall 5431, to West). All of the strata are cut on their Northern face, and this might represent where the earlier (i.e. Late 19th c. Or Broneer) excavations stopped. We scraped this area back as well, to prevent future contamination.
