Description:   The soil color is reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This magnificent slab of earth and pebbles was revealed after the excavation of a number of contexts to the west of wall 694. It initially appeared as if it might be a sort of rubble fill for a perpendicular extension of 694, but this seems unlikely. It was cut by 691 and 698, and overlaid by 696 and 699. The appearance of the pebbles, which distinguished it quite clearly from the surrounding contexts, is unexplained. To the NW, 700 was cut by the scoundrel pit 691. As with the other contexts cut by 691, there was no evidence for the sort of shell density that distinguished 691. Aside from its satisfyingly round number and its handsome alliteration, 700 seems largely to be another of the coven of contexts squatting around 691 and 694. While they are stratigraphically distinguishable with ease, the reasons for their relatively small size and scattered deposition remain an open question.
