Area:   Nezi Field
Title:   Darker area under removal of 539, 538
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1106
Context:   779

Date:   2012/05/07
Stratum:   30%, small pebbles (some round, but mostly they are angular), tile, pottery, bone, few chunks of carbon, few roots, a little pocket of greenish limestone powder, some chunks of mortar
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   779 is practically the same with context 778, however, a new nr. was given to it in order to better understand the boundaries of 778, which was the dark layer under 539, 538.
It appears that on the eastern part, 779 cuts into the red layer, forming a neat round corner, and streches to the west for ca. 1.50m, to turn again in a round corner, thus having almost the shape of a rectangle with round corners.
25 May 2012: After group discussion, we are equating 778 and 779 within the Harris matrix. They are both dated to the 11th c. npd by pottery, and 778 was located immediately above 779. 778 extended slightly further to the west, which allows us to connect it to the complex series of fills in the southwest corner of our area. - RM
