Stratum:   Soil - yellow/red in color. Inclusions: stone, pottery, carbon, clay, decomposing mudbrick
Description:   The soil color is light yellowish mixed. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   We have had some difficulties in understanding what kind of relationship the yellow hard-packed fill 842 has to the black soils around it. For this reason, we decided to give a number to this context when Thanasis stopped digging 840 and came back to the yellowish soil. Our idea, at this moment, is that this context is the same as 839.
The yellowish soil is mixed with a reddish one; carbon and a bit of ash is visible. We decided to take a soil sample when we began to notice significant amounts of ash toward the center of the pit. The elevation of this sample was very close to the starting elevation of the context itself. There are also pockets of quite pronounced reddish/yellow sandy soil around the south side of the pit that we think is degraded mudbrick.
This pit came clearly down upon a hard-packed red layer that seems to extend along its sides.
