Description:   The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context of hard black soil is awkwardly shaped, cut to the W by 844 and to the S by the cut for pier 573. To the SW, a narrow strip between 573 and 844 borders an apparently red layer of the scarp between 844 and the robbing trench for wall 747. The context is likely a levelling fill. The hard compaction is probably due to exposure to the elements over the past few weeks.
