Description:   The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   The context 878 is a hard packed brown and black soil, S the robbing trench 759. On the top this context had hard packed soil, but digging it, the soil was softer.
This context is the filling of a cut, 882, whose S ans E boundaries were clear since we started excavating.
We found large quantities of marble, lime, and plaster in this fill and, while we were digging it, Thanasis suggested this cut may be used as a limekiln. Plaster was visible while we were diggind, in the S and E sides of the cut. The N edge of this context became clear as well, and it is what it may be the filling between the two robbing trenches (759 and 749), E the wall 747. This N edge of 878 is covered by plaster as the other sides.
The S-O side of 878 appears to be made by some stones, which seems to be part of the well 742.
The fill 878 came down on a slope on the W side, which contains a lot of plaster, lime and tiles. The remaining part of 878 came down on a hard packed reddish soil, rich in plaster.
Guy suggested that this context is a secondary filling of a plaster pit, and it is unlikely that this pit was used as a limekiln. It is possible that the walls of this cut were intentionally covered with plaster, for some building purpose, which is not clear at the moment, possibly during the Byzantine period. In a second time this cut was filled by a dumped fill, 878.
