Stratum:   Inclusions: stones, pottery, bones, iron, carbon, worked bone
Description:   The soil color is light greyish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   When we finished digging 888 we came on a hard packed soil. This fill was at the same elevation of the black soil which characterized 889. And this let us to conclude that 889 and 888 were two different contexts.
889 appears to be a continuation of 887: the color, the compaction and the inclusions are very similar one to each other.
The E boundary of 889 is Wall 540, the N edge is wall 747 and the foundation wall we found at the bottom of 833.
While we were digging this context we found a complete pot, whose coordinates are: E 262.83, N 1009.99, H 85.55. Underneath it there were big pieces of carbon, so we decided to take a sample of soil. While we were cleaning up this area of the context Thanasis found a hole. It seems that this hole was intentionally closed with tiles. As far as we can undestand at this stage of excavation, this hole is a cistern, 2.35 m deep, covered with plaster.
E this well we found a squared stone, similar to the stones we interpreted as foundation wall at the bottom of 833 (S 889).
8 June 2012
This morning we continued digging this context reaching its bottom. 889 came on a hard-packed reddish soil. This bottom surface is characterized by some pieces of carbon and small lenses of lime. E the squared stone there are few tiles and small stones aligned. But, at this stage of excavation, it is not clear if they are part of the same structure, because they are deep in the reddish layer, so they are not clearly visible.
