Description:   Top slope of the context is level down to the N. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We opened this context to investigate the patch of darker soil adjacent to the western scarp in the baulk south of cut 871. Initially we thought this area was equal to the adjacent context 966, but on closer inspection this area was higher, of a slightly darker color, and appeared to continue into the scarp, so we elected to excavate it separately. This layer was more shallow than adjacent 966, and came down on a yellowish brown layer with fewer inclusions. The context included much tile (40%) and some pottery with many fine and medium pebbles. The layer below still contained pottery and tile, but in lesser quantities.
