Stratum: | 15-20% inclusions: medium and coarse pebbles (subrounded, rounded, and angular), some cobbles.
Description: | Top slope of the context is slight down to the SE. Bottom slope of the context is slight. The soil color is very dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes: | The removal of B95 revealed another cobble layer which a very silty layer of coil covers in part. We can see on the inside edge of the pit or well (B71) that this layer overlies the cobble layer for some extent, so we are taking this overlying layer out. We have very clear boundary lines to the west (where B96 gives way to the south cobbled layer under it) and the north (where B96 overlies a clay layer) and the south (the edge of the pit), but we wil have to wait to find the boundary to the east which will be defined through excavation. As Bill dug, the soil became darker. To the east more cobbles were found embedded in the soil under this layer, and cobbles also started coming up with this layer. Several very distinct lenses of fill were fevealed by the removal of this basket. To the north is a lens of densely packed cobbles which looks like a different context from the cobbles found under B95. To the south is a very dark (ashy?) fill with several large pebbles and tile fragments visible from the surface.
