Description:   Top slope of the context is level down to the N. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context was the removal of the continuation of the lower tile layer preserved in the baulk below wall 540, north of wall 922. WE are fairly certain that this layer is equal to 984 on the south side of the wall. One tile was laying directly in front of the west end of wall 992, so we initially thought that the tile layer ran under the wall. However, as excavation continued, we discovered a column base and pedestal on a large rock, seemingly built into the wall. Now it appears that the western part of the wall was built on top of the tile layer, but this was likely a later phase of the wall 992. The column base may be related to the concrete phase of the wqall 992 at its eastern end, while the rubber wall was laid over and again it in a second phase, after the tile layer had been deposited.
We closed the context after the tiles were removed. However, we noted that the men had removed some of the soil in the layer below near the wall to fully expose the column base.
Several coins came out of this layer.
