Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context was opened in order to excavate the fill of the posible Roman robbing trench west of wall 38. There is clear cut within a floor surface to the west, and it is likely that this robbing trench cuts the surface. This cut is delineated by loose soil.
We are excavating the fill down to the foundation course level of wall 38 unless there is a significant soil change. However, we suspect this is the rest of the fill filled in at the same time as context 37.
We are coming down on what appears to be the same sort of foundation trench found along the south side of wall 44 in the SE quadrant and to the east of wall 38. This change is delineated not only by the foundation course but also by compacted soil. We now have a long narrow cut for the foundation trench of wall 38 between the west side of the wal on the north side and bedrock it likely continues to the north under the scarp. It appears wider around the square block like on the SE. We will close the context at this point and we will excavate more of the fill to the west in order to expose the cut.
