Description: | The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy clay.
Notes: | 11/4/16 We begin by removing the top layers of stone from the deposit. There are more stones of the same size mixed in with the underlying earth, but here there is a much higher ratio of soil to stones. There are several large fragments of roof tiles (collected with the pottery). This deposit cuts into the compacted surface exposed by the removal of deposit 320 and has a very distinctly different composition--dry, sandy, almost cementlike (though loose) vs. clay. There is a lump of greenish unbaked clay in the matrix which we collect. Below the top layer, there are distinct areas of soil--one black and one red within the cut. The black soil appears to cut into the red, which in turn cuts into the clay surface to the west. Because of this, we close 326 and change contexts (black soil is 330, red is 332).
