Stratum:   light yellowish brown silty sand; inclusions of charcoal, marble pieces
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We open this context to continue to remove the fill around the west side of the well. It is essentially a continuation of Context 380, but since we had not intended 380 to extend west of the well when we opened it, we decide to open a new context.
The soil is compact silty sand is yellowish/orangeish brown. There are inclusions of white marble chips (but none in the colored marbles encountered in earlier levels, nor are there any evident pieces of revetment--they are working chips, not a broken finished product), charcoal, and pottery. The abundance of charcoal and small sherds is consistent with and similar to context 380, but it was noted from the sieve that the marble on one hand and the charcoal and small sherds were strongly bucket-specific -- suggesting that the nature of the context changed along the way or that it was composed of distinct patches or concentrations of different materials. The overall matrix was, however, constant. We begin to find a packed surface in the northeast of the context -- not the same as was exposed under 380, as it is still higher. It seems to extend under the fill still being excavated, which has become harder and has some white (lime?) inclusions within it. We thus decide to continue to remove this fill in a separate context and to expose the rest of the possible surface.
