Stratum:   light yellowish/orange brown silty sand with inclusions of metal (slag?), bone, charcoal, tile, ceramic
Description:   The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We open this context to continue to remove the fill overlying the bedrock/stereo(?) in 4RE to the N of the fill we took in context 423. At this point there are now several patches of fill with large rocks visible on the surface in the S and N ends of the area encompassed by 4RE, and so we also hope further passes in this ocntext will clarify their relationship (to each other and to the rest of the fill). The soil is yellowish-brown silty sand with small rock and pebble inclusions, and turns more orange as we get closer to the bedrock/stereo. We expose the bedrock/stereo over much of the area of the context. It is noteworthy that this bedrock/stereo is considerably higher than in the neighboring 3R, as well as appears to still to be slighly higher than the visible bedrock to the N in 4F. At the end of the excavation context, we have several distince possible pits or features and patches of fill remaining, including: a possible extension of the foundation trench of the late wall, 3 areas of fill with large rocks (SE, SW, NW), and several pits or depressions in the central to northern areas of the context- the larger (and more central) of these has visible chunks of rooftile in the fill.
