Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This soil surface was left unexcavated during the excavation of context 24 since it was a harder, more compact soil that seemed to create a floor. Most likely it is a soil surface below the rubble fill that did not act as an ancient floor. The high compaction may be due to its location below a rubble fill and a floor since the Roman era.

Excavation revealed a "nice" floor just below the surface. This floor also makes a distinct cut with the edge of the putative E-W robbing trench at the north edge of the context (which is the south edge of context 29). Excavation on the west side next to an original Greek wall (context 38) revealed what is likely the earliest foundation trench in the entire south stoa. The trench runs N-S and extends about 30 cm off the Greek wall to the east. This is the only foundation trench identified in the entire building. It's elevation is ____. It is apparent by its contrast with the relatively smooth floor surface seen in the rest of context 46.
A coin was discovered near the center of the context at an elevation of 81.44, N 1081.25 E 329.4 (on top of the floor). The floor is a packed, uneven clay surface. It runs up to the cut of context 16 and a martyr was left there beause of the LR wall and there is a martyr along the bench (context 17). There is a good cut into what is probably the E-W robbing trench on the NE side of the context. A large stone that was embedded vertically in the surface was removed. The contamination of the E-W cut on the north side. We now will close the context and will dig the robbing trench as context 54.
