Corinth Basket: South Stoa, context 594
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   South Stoa, context 594
Area:   South Stoa
Title:   Reddish layer alongside bedrock
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1110
Context:   594
Date:   2016/06/10
Stratum:   20% angular and subrounded spherical coarse pebbles; some cobbles. Pottery almost exclusive artefact.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the E. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   09.06: Excavation of the context starts with trowels and brushes from the E of the bedrock.
09.35: Change to handpick close to the bedrock due to the conditions of the deposit.
11.47: While finishing the first pass I am starting to see another layer below this rocky soil. There is a soil with a total lack of stones, which constitute another context in the area. The boundaries are still unclear, and will require still some cleaning to clarify the stratigraphic relationship.
12.15: Work interrupted in the area due to the final report of the fieldsschool. The work in the area is almost over, altough some cleaning is still necessary to define better the surface.
13th of June, 2016:
07.59: After some cleaning of the area performed to increase the visibility of the boundaries the context was closed. We are presented now with two deposits, a firmer and yellowish brown to the E and a reddish softer by the bedrock which is also overlaid by the former. The firmer presents large stone inclusions and ceramics, while the reddish appears to be clean of most inclusions. This remark is only relevant as far as it could be indicating we are approaching naturally deposited contexts.
