Stratum:   Fine to medium rounded pebbles (50%), sand (20%), rare ceramics (1%, 1-5cm) and tile (1%, 2-5cm).
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the SW. The soil color is light brownish yellow. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is well sorted. It is coarse sand.
Notes:   A difference in soil compaction, as well as the lateral fracture of the upper layer from the lower layer are the primary indicators of a new context level. See 1096 notes for discussion of excavation goals in area. The boundaries of 1099 were defined by as follows: in the south, by the edges of the paved courtyard (though the floor can be observed continuing under paving stones); in the north, by the north wall; in east, by a scarp (it had been decided bisect the unpaved courtyard and excavate an area spanning 2m from the west scarp); and in the west, by the west edge of the scarp.
