Stratum:   Stones, tiles, sherds. Maybe 50%? Mostly stones.
Description:   The soil color is dark brownish black. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This was excavated on 8/4/14 after work in the lime pit had finished (contexts 5, 6, 9, and 10). It is a fill in a depression within a road (context 24) W. of room 5 and NW of the Frankish church's narthex in Unit 2. The road and the fill run north/south. It appears to be related to the rubbly fill (context 18) with whose borders it is roughly though not exactly contiguous. However, rather than rubble, this layer was composed in large part of tile and smaller stones compared to the larger field stones of context 18. This was the first element excavated as part of the excavations of an early modern road which covers Frankish remains. The road can be identified on the 1829 map of Corinth produced by Peytier.
