Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We began to excavate the earth S of context 40 and N of rooms H and G of unit 2. We are interested in learning if the soft, dark earth of context 191 continues to the E and how this area might relate to the pit of context 40.
One coin (2014-75) and an olive pit were found in the early removal of this area. We decided then to sample one bucket of soil for water flotation. The color and consistency of the earth is similar to context 191 but without any large cobble stones. During the removal of this soft, loose, dark earth a harder packed, lighter earth was revealed underneath. We continue to expose the top of the lighter earth and remove the softer earth above. In the SE corner of this area (N 1075.25, E 107.04, H 86.05) we revealed a few flay lying tiles and some light orange and blonde earth that appears to be sectioned to the S and to the E. It is possible that the hard packed, light earth is a floor surface. We continue cleaning the area to uncover the extent of this earth. Some pottery, bones, glass, iron, and one small piece of obsidian were discovered in this context.
Context 195 appears to be one layer in a sequence of fills that seem to belong to an exterior space in this phase.
