Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 228
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 228
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   General fill N room G, unit 2, 4th lens from top
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   228
Date:   2014/05/08
Stratum:   Inclusions of tiles, stones (mixed but mainly coarse pebbles / cobbles), pottery, bone/shell, and charcoal (approximately 7%)
Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the N. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We began to remove the fourth layer of the large fill to the N of room G. We dig with the small pick moving up the slope to the S taking care to remove only the soft brown earth. There are several bits of charcoal in the earth of this context.
In looking at the area around N1076.39 E105.45 we find that the soft brown earth is continuing underneath the pinkish clay extending further to the S around the pit. We decide at this point to close context 228 to prevent contamination and open a new context to remove the clayey earth. Some pottery and bone were collected in this context.
One coin (2014-95) was found during the sweeping of the larger area. We assign this coin to context 4, the first general cleaning of the area.
After further excavation it seems that this context is actually the same as that of the fifth lens of general fill N of room G, unit 2-- context 236.
