Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the N. The soil color is light pinkish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   We begin to remove the pinkish clayey soil deposit that seemed to sit atop context 228. We proceed slowly with the small pick taking care to remove only this clayey deposit over the softer brown earth. We decide to dry sieve this context as several pottery fragments, including the broken vessel with full profile preserved lying at H86.03. We are interested in understanding whether the tiles, stones, and ceramic fragments lying on the E and S edges of the pit of context 31 are sitting in this clayey context or belong to the soft brown earth undeneath.
The removal of this layer reveals a line of stones and clay running N-S at approximately E106.75. We need to do more clearing in this area before we can determine whether this a wall or some other structure. We continue cautiously also to the N curving around the pit to remove only the pinkish clay. We stop digging and close the context when the clay turns yellowish to the E of the pit. Several glass sherds were collected in this context that likely join to create neraly a full profile. Another full profile of a broken vessel was found at N1077.06 E105.91 H85.93, which likely joins with the vessel previously mentioned at H86.03.
