Stratum:   50% inclusions, especially large animal bones, some pottery, ceramic.
Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the N. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   As we excavated 254, certain new deposits started coming up through the soil (pits, a hearth). After closing 260, which was a similar composition to 254, a rectangular-looking deposit came up. It was suggested that this deposit was a hearth, given that the soil was darker - a deeper yellow. Digging the deposit started in the morning and lots of buckets were being removed. The soil was full of animal bones, especially larger animals (e.g., cow). It appears that the bone is coming out in larger prportion to the pottery. 10% of the soil will be saved for flotation, in order to understand better this deposit. As the deposit was traced north, it seems like the hearth deposit could be similar to what is below the current level of the south side of the room. 263 on the southern edge was overdug, as the deposit went below the surface that will be context 266. At 12.20, it was observed that the total station was off-level; elevations should be accurate.
