Stratum:   40% small rounded and angular pebbles and cobbles; ceramics and tile frag
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are now removing the cobble road that lies west of Unit 2, Room A. It is a large, flat road that has a uniform consistancy. This road was fully revealed by the removal of Deposits 19, 30 and 33. There are two pits that cut into the road (Cuts 29 and 35). We do not have the full southern extent of the road, nor its western. Just south of the vaulted chamber, the road was not found. In fact, removal of Deposit 19 brought this area lower than the road. Along the east side of the road, just west of the vaulted chamber, is a small line where the road seems to split leaving part of the road surface above the roof of the vaulted chamber. It is possible this was the result of seismic activity. The western limit of the road borders the foot path through the NW passage. At the north, it is bounded by Cut 16 and the modern pit from NB 839. The east is bounded by the previous excavations in Unit 2, Room A. The most abundant inclusions are stones and tiles. This metal road is on the same orientation as the road between the two shops to the south of this area.
10/4/14:
We continued to remove the road. A little north of the vaulted chamber tha amount of road reduced drastically, so that rather than removing 0.10m of road, we begun to removed 0.02-0,025m. Therefore the nrothern section of road is much thinner and is over yet a 3rd road surface with pebbles, those these are less frequent. In the northern most area we have found two coins: COIN 2014-10 (96.75, 1070.26, 86.13) and COIN 2014-12 (97.61, 1070.63, 86.13). In the east, along Wall 1 the road urface did not extend to the wall but rather there appears to be a cut in the road, possible associated with the wall; foundation trench (?). Collected, in addition to ceramics, were bone (1 box), glass (1 bag); and metal (1 bag). Having removed the cobble metal road it is clear that in the north it had been cut by the water pipe trench; it stopes in the east by the foundation trench of Wall 1 and in the west by the foot path that is possibly compacted backfill.
