Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   398
Date:   2014/05/25
Stratum:   70-80% inclusions (rough cobbles, tabular and platy cobbles, roof tile)
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   As we moved E removing a layer of trampled fill in the corridor (Context 389), we encountered a rough transition into a much softer and more inclusion rich matrix. We closed 389 and opened this context, 398. The deposit is coming up as a loosely compacted fill: it looks right now as if it fills a cut in the hard packed surface exposed below 389 and . Further excavation has revealed that this fill (Context 398) is cut by 403. We have finished excavating 398, coming down on a harder surface below, and are now closing the context.
