Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 403
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Large cut Crossing corridor
Notebook:   1108
Context:   403
Date:   2014/05/23
Description:   The context shape in plan is sub-rectangular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are mixed. The break at the base of the cut is sharp.
Notes:   While excavating a lens of fill (397) in the W portion of the corridor, we were coming down on a very hard, trampled surface, covered with flay lying tile and ceramic. But as we moved E, we reached what appeared to be a much looser, redder fill that cut into the surface we were removing. We closed the context and began excavating this fill as Context 398. Once we removed 398, 403 was a roughly N-S oriented cut crossing the width of the hallway was revealed. As 403 was not exactly in alignment with Wall 157, we wondered if the cut might pertain to an earlier, no longer extant version of the wall. Hopefully further excavation will clarify this.
This was dug out of sequence. At the end of the season, we realized that Context 379 (and its associated cut, 408) actually cut into 398 and Cut 403.
