Description:   The soil color is light reddish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy clay.
Notes:   Although the context had only been exposed for 1 week while Pit 733 was excavated, the soil was very dry. Portions of the context were very well cemented and required the big pick for excavation. The surface was hardpacked throughout and included tile pieces and large pieces of pottery flat within the context, as if it were used as a floor of an outdoor space (ie a courtyard). The courtyard paving was cut by the large pit (Pit 733) and the foundation trench of wall 659 (672/673) and of wall 700 (706/708).
Note 1: Coins 227 and 228 were found in the sieve in the same bucket. The bucket came from the SE most portion of the context.
Coin 227 (Villehardouin CORINTVM), 228 (Villehardoin CORINTVM), 229 (disentigrated), 230 (Villehardouin CORINTVM), 231 (Byzantine, Manuel I), 232 (Byzantine, Maneul I)
