Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 836
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 836
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Hard clay fill, NW corner room 9
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   836
Date:   2015/06/08
Stratum:   Two different soils in this context - other was a dark reddish brown clayey soil. 30% inclusions, tiles, ceramics, cobbles, coarse pebbles. Angular, tabular.
Description:   The soil color is light greenish white. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted.
Notes:   Red clayey soil, continues to W, but stopping at an arbitrary line at the robbing trench.
8:30- continuing into robbing trench. Mixing white clayey soil with reddish clayey soil. Red clayey soil about 3 cm below whitish in robbing trench (LN: redish soil was not clayey).
White clayey level continues under N wall (Wall 700). Can be seen in section on other side of wall, under it.
Robbing trench - whitish clay continues into Room 8, on W side of robbing trench.
To E - started with reddish clay. But whitish clay in robbing trench. Soils mixed in this context - should have been separated into two contexts.
"Bottom" of robbing trench - weathered, trampeled since 1990s. Clayey surface continues "under" robbing trench (LN - next level down not clayey soil as thought. Robbing trench may be cut deeper), but ends at east edge of robbing trench.
Whitish clayey level continues in scarp on N side of Wall 830.
Robbing trench cut continues lower (maybe).
Robbing trench dug in the 1990s.
LN: Because robbing trench was exposed since the 90s, we decided to consider the entire context a cleaning. Unfortunately some material from the eastern part of the context (outside of the robbing trench) will be lost to this cleaning since it should have been dug separately.
