Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 870
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   White clay surface NE room 8
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   870
Date:   2015/06/12
Stratum:   Nothing visible to the naked eye. Surface is pure compacted clay
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light greyish white. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is well sorted. It is clay.
Notes:   8.05: Excavation of the surface started. Soil is basically pure clay compacted, running towards the face of 850. Handpick breaks large fragments of soil that need to be subsequently broken. A fragment of the clay has been kept as a sample for comparison and analysis with the clays of the area.
8.22: The excavation has reached the area of the N wall and the clay layer is clearly visible running under it and cut on the profile of the other side of the N wall. This takes place, however, not at the level of the courses but c.40cm below the point of contact of the wall with the soil. The difference with the soil of the layer below is very clear, but the fragments of clay removed come with a little bit of soil below attached to them. Current working hypothesis is that this layer was the remnant of a floor associated to structure 850.
