Notes: | Study Collection. Data Entry Funded by the Kress Foundation. Negative 81-51-28/29 CONS. 01-24 Coin broken Rare issue: Issue with reverse type "Woman in temple" and CONSERVATOR...or LIBERATOR... is rare for Athens (1 specimen in Agora II, p. 37, #874) and Corinth (none in Edwards! and none in J E Fisher's reports) Type seems to date from time of Maxentius (306- ). Our particular specimen is designated as r2 (up to 25 specimen known) in RIC. The reverse type, "Roma in Temple" with RESTITVTOR VRBIS SVAE or LIBERATORI VRBIS SVAE, celebrates Constantine's defeat of Maxentius "deliberately stressing the beneficence of that victory." RIC VI, p. 52-3. Note: Maxentius (307 AD) uses similar reverse but with CONSERVATORES VRB SVAE 8a! RIC VI, p.50 | |
