Description:   Small two-handled jug with flaring, hollow disk foot, ovoid body, rounded shoulder, narrow vertical neck. Two vertical handles attached to max. Diam. Shape similar to C-1938-505 (McKay 1967, Hesperia 36, cat. 69). Very similar to C-1959-159 (McKay 1967, Hesperia 36, cat. 70) from Lot 158.
Decoration:   Painted on shoulder in matt paint: two widely-spaced red dos with circle of black around, connected by row of slightly arched black dots. Shallow incised encircling groove at lower handle attachment. Surface smoothed, lightly burnished.
Material:   Moderately coarse to fine pale buff clay with scattered fine black inclusions.
Condition:   Complete profile. Single frgt., preserving complete pot to mid neck and lower handle attachments; missing handles.
Period:   Late Byzantine (1059-1210 AD)
Chronology:   2nd quarter 12th c., based on comparanda, according to MacKay
Findspot Description:   B.H.H., Peirene West. From well, cannot be dated by context.
