Description:   Bowl with vertical ring foot, pierced for suspension, flattened resting surface, rounded undersurface. Straight flaring body, rising at 45 degrees to round lip. For shape cf. Philon, Early Islamic Ceramics fig. 395 p. 194.
Decoration:   Decorated in copper colour: floor: divided in two by central band with reserved Kufic inscription, repeated in each half (cf. Philon, fig. 466). On interior body continuous Arabic inscription, near Philon fig. 398. Band with scalloped edge below lip. On exterior, isolated stripes, inscription ? and single stroke on floor, signature ?

Material:   Sandy fine buff clay.
Condition:   Complete profile. Three frgts., apparently joining give 3/4 foot, floor and small part of body, lip; assembled in plaster with two non-joining frgts., C-1935-294 + unknown piece.
