Description:   Kotyle with deep bowl on narrow ring foot; flaring wall recurves to plain rim. Profile does not expand greatly. Two horizontal handles, round in section, just below rim.
Decoration:   Black or brown thin glaze-paint at top, bright reddish brown below. Added red. Figure frieze on body: bearded male (Melicertes?) swimming right, caresses throat of large dolphin; swimmer satyric suggested by addition of red paint on face and costume, phallic and painted red. Dolphin with added red on head, belly, tail. Between extremities of male and dolphin, large duck with folded wings to right with added red on wing bow. Filling ornament rather dense consisting of simple incised rosettes and large incised dots. Ray pattern above foot. Interior glazed. Concentric circles on underside of foot. Probably contemporary with C-1962-445 (Amyx and Lawrence 1975, Corinth 7.2, cat. An 85); swimmer's head little later than Euytios krater. Artist's hand not ye recognized on other ases, but breadth and massiveness show contemporaneity with mature work by Columbus Painter (Amyx 1961, "Alabastron of Oinanthe", Ath. Mitt., LXXVI, p. 12-14, Beil. 6-7).
Material:   Light buff clay at top, pinkish buff below. Misfired.
Condition:   Complete profile. Man joining frgts., preserving complete profile; missing pieces of wall. RIP.
Period:   Middle Corinthian (595/590-570)
