Title:   TERRACOTTA FIGURINE OF RECLINING MALE FIGURE

Description:   Mouldmade terracotta figurine of male (possibly female?) figure reclining on low couch or bed. Long hair, painted in white slip overlaid by red paint, falls to shoulders. Chest apparently bare. Body extends to proper right. Left arm bent at elbow, which rests on pillow and supports weight of upper body. Left hand extended and holding cup or shallow bowl. Right arm extends along right side, rests on right knee. Drapery covers left shoulder and arm, lower body. Couch with large mattress or pillow atop low rounded frame. Entire front of figurine covered with white slip; red paint overlays white on figure's body and on drapery and pillow or mattress. Back handmade, flaring slightly toward bottom for support. Traces of fingerprints on back. Juncture with front marked by flattened surface. Couch of figurine hollow, body and head solid. From same mould as KT19-66 and MF 2723 (according to Corinth 15.2).
Decoration:   White slip over all; red paint overlays white slip on body, drapery, pillow or mattress.
Material:   Fine very pale brown clay with rare rounded tabular voids.
Munsell Color:   10YR 8/3 (very pale brown)
Condition:   Missing parts. Single frgt., missing only part of head and face.
Period:   Classical
Chronology:   5th or 4th c. BC
Findspot Description:   Miscellaneous Finds, Corinth.
