Description: | Byzantine bronze fork with two tines, rhomboidal in section and tapering to fine points, attached to an unusually three-dimensional horseshoe-shaped element with two projections where it connects with the tines. Attached to handle by a short cylindrical element. Handle hollow in center and resembles a baldaccino, with bottom part faceted and U-shaped, then four pillars, then another upside-down U-shaped part, then two raised squares. Upper part of handle a tang, square in section and tapering to a blunt point, for attaching to a handle of different material. Previously published as a bifurcated probe. | |
