Description:   Terracotta mouldmade hollow thymiaterion in shape of Pan with a bowl on top of his head with flaring pinched irregular edge and thin incised vertical lines radiating at wide regular intervals from the base. An applied vertical central strip, triangular in section, rests between the two twisted straight horns and is of equal height. Hair falls in an inverted V from between horns, large round head, squared face, rectangular forehead with furrowed protruding brow with bump in center, thin eyebrows slant upward from nose, wide set eyes, both lids well defined, large bulbous downward curved nose, flaring nostrils, incised lines around nose, round prominent cheekbones, wide mouth, full lips, bared teeth, large pointed ears protrude from side of head. Thickly curled beard. Handmade rounded back. Other example of grotesque thymiaterion from Corinth MF76-101 (Hesperia XLIX, p. 152 no. 63 pl. 35).
Decoration:   Gray slip on exterior of bowl, horn, and back of head. White slip on face, back of head, exterior of bowl, and a strip running around interior of the bowl leaving lower interior unslipped.

Material:   Fine very pale brown clay with rare fine tabular angular mudstone, few fine to very large platy angular white, few fine platy angular black, and few fine sparkling inclusions and frequent medium tabular angular voids
Munsell Color:   Clay: 10YR 8/3 (very pale brown), Slip: 10YR 6/2 (light brownish gray)
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., preserving part of bowl and head, half vent hole at back; broken at front diagonally at right ear to lower lt. chin. Traces of white slip and abundant gray slip throughout piece.
