Description:   Terracotta mouldmade monkey with conical head, low brow, deep wrinkle in forehead curving around sunken narrow eyes, pug nose, jutting lower face, small downturned mouth, a slight ruff extends from sides of face, lt. shoulder juts out behind the head; position suggests monkey may have sat on haunches. Open back. Parallels for the monkey type exist MF69-399 (Corinth XVIII.4, p. 268, 277-278 no. V8 pl. 61), MF 75-31, and MF-5521 (Corinth XII, p. 27 no. 54 pl. 4) but the closest is MF69-20 but not at the detail of this piece.
Decoration:   Covered in white slip with black paint on the head, face, and neck.
Material:   Fine reddish yellow clay with few medium to very large tabular rounded white and frequent small tabular rounded black inclusions
Munsell Color:   Clay: 5YR 6/6 (reddish yellow), Paint: 10R 5/2 (weak red)
Condition:   Fragment. One piece preserving head, part of lt. shoulder, broken at lower neck. Incrusted and worn surface. Covered in white slip and patchy black paint thoughout.
