Description: | Mended from two pieces, acanthus column with one side of flute (0.051 wide) with fillets on either side, apophyge above. To viewer's left is a knot of hair c a0.073 above fluting, broken away on top surface. On sides are carved lines converging along another horizontal line to form hair. Traces of red paint on sides of hair. Top of hair and flutes bordered by ovolo moulding (ca 0.030 wide). Above to viewer's right, an almost complete 11 leaf palmette, with top an dleaves broken away. At far side are three small lower leaves of a similar palmette. The area between the two palmetes is barely smoothed and centered above the knot of hair, with may be a strut connecting a head with the column. Non-joining fragment of S 3719 B-D. | |
