"dc-title","Collection","UserLevel","dc-description","Name","dc-subject","dc-creator","Id","dc-publisher","Chronology","Icon","dc-date","Redirect","Type" "Portrait Head of Female Figure","Agora","","In fine preservation.; A portrait of a middle aged woman (Faustina the Younger ?) with rather severe features and with hair parted in the center and drawn down in waves to a chignon in the back, below which escape several locks of hair.; The bust has evidently never been finished: the lobe of the ear is uncut, the rough surface of the forehead is unpolished, the locks of the hair on the neck are without shape, the roughly worked surface of the skin in the region of the clavicles has not been cut down to its final level, and the points on cheek bones and chin have not been removed.; The head was intended as an insert in a large statue: the lower edges of the cut below the base of the neck are rough-picked, with a smooth band at the outer surface.; Work of the 2nd half of the 2nd century A.D.; White Pentelic marble.; Drilled for setting with bronze pin in hollowed base 1956.; ; ADDENDA H.
