Description: | Mended from many pieces. Foot missing. About half of walls missing. Nearly all of rim preserved. Flaring offset rim with top sloping outward, reserved bands at rim and below rim inside. Rim has laurel wreath. Below it a reserved band. A) Mounted Amazon rides left toward hoplite. Amazon armed with spear. She wears a spotted cap, a skirt and striped trousers. The hoplite, who stands with left foot upon a rock, wears greaves, cuirasse, and Attic helmet and is armed with spear and shield. Elaborate spiral pattern on cuirasse done in relief line visible inside of shield. B) At right, a figure striding to right, looking back to left. An Amazon, she wears a skirt, jacket and trousers and cap, and carries spear in her right hand, a lunate wicker shield in her left hand. To left are traces of the feet of a trousered figure walking to right. Possibly a scene of Amazons setting out. Ground line is maeander and saltire squares. Black glaze inside and out. Orange clay. | |
