Title:   Amphoriskos Fragments

Description:   Main fragment (a) from eight joining fragments plus a group of three joining fragments (b) and one of two fragments (c).
Body rounded; tall vertical neck; flaring rim, flat on top. Two vertical handles attached from upper shoulder to rim, each with a hole drilled through near to top (one handle preserved and stump of second one).
Painted decoration in good black gloss, with a lustrous sheen. Preserved lower body painted solid. Three thin horizontal bands on lower shoulder from the uppermost of which spring cross-hatched triangles, each formed by an additional diagonal on either side; probably three triangles on either side. Neck and rim top painted solid; handles laddered. Interior reserved.
Clay in part discolored gray due to burning mostly on frags. b and c; close to reddish yellow 5 YR 7/6 where least affected by fire.
Late Protogeometric.
