Title: | Head of Bearded Helmeted Warrior Figurine
Category: | Terracotta | |
Description: | Mended from many pieces. Surface greatly damaged and in many places entirely gone leaving a yellow-greenish core with small dark pits in it. Nose, part of upper lip, lower part of face including the beard, cheek-pieces, front part of helmet over forehead, most of the base of the crest, greater part of the left side, pieces from the neck-piece missing. Very little of beard and moustaches left. Eyebrow, eyelashes, pupil, iris in light brown paint. The background of the helmet is covered with the same colors, except of one Pegasus on each side and a reserved band at its lower edge on the neck. Maender on the base of crest. Two holes on the right cheek and part of another on the left show where the cheek-pieces were attached. A small piece of clay above the nose near the left eyebrow suggests that there was probably a piece of the helmet coming down over the nose, a rather unusual feature for the Attic helmet. The helmet came down low over the eye brows. Excellently finished surface of ivory color. Cf. T 3282.
